Ram Setu is a movie about an archeologist named Dr. Aryan Kulshrestha, played by Akshay Kumar, whose life is changed by an expedition he takes in 2007 to Bamyan, Afghanistan with a Pakistani team. During this expedition, he discovers ancient Indian treasure belonging to a king and is attacked by the Taliban. Aryan manages to escape with the treasure chest and at a press conference, he makes headlines for admitting to being an atheist, rather than for his heroic actions in preserving history. Meanwhile, a man named Indrakant, played by Nassar, requests the government of India to dismantle Ram Setu, a naturally-made structure between India and Sri Lanka, as part of his Sethusamudram Project. This causes a major controversy and a petition is filed in the Supreme Court. The government, which is in cahoots with Indrakant, turns to Aryan, who has just been promoted to Joint Director General of the Archeological Society of India (ASI), to submit a report stating that Ram Setu is not man-made. However, Aryan asks for time to research the topic, but his request is denied. He submits a report that also raises questions on the validity of the Ramayana, which further fuels the controversy. Indrakant then challenges Aryan to prove to the world that Ram Setu is not man-made and Aryan goes to Rameshwaram with a team consisting of Project Manager Bali, played by Pravesh Rana, environmentalist Dr. Sandra Rebello, played by Jacqueline Fernandez, and Dr. Gabrielle, played by Jennifer Piccinato, to start his research. According to some research, Lord Ram was born 7000 years ago, and Aryan needs to prove that Ram Setu predates his birth. As he delves deeper into his research, he starts questioning his own beliefs and realizes that Ram Setu was built by Lord Ram and the Vanar Sena. What happens next forms the rest of the film, as Aryan grapples with his newfound understanding of Ram Setu and his own beliefs as an atheist. The movie explores the conflicts between religion, science, and history, and highlights the importance of preserving our cultural heritage.
