Bhoot Police is a story about two brothers, Vibhooti and Chiraunji played by Saif Ali Khan and Arjun Kapoor respectively, who claim to be experts in ghost-busting. They are the sons of the legendary Ullat Baba who died when Chiraunji was just five years old. While Vibhooti doesn't believe in the existence of ghosts, they continue to deceive their clients by pretending to get rid of evil spirits and pocketing a hefty fee in return. However, Vibhooti secretly hopes to encounter a real ghost someday and prove his belief in their existence. Their chance arrives when they meet Maya, played by Yami Gautam, who owns the Silawar Tea Factory and lives there with her sister Kanika, played by Jacqueline Fernandez. They seek the help of Vibhooti and Chiraunji to ward off an evil spirit that haunts their estate. What happens next is the crux of the story. Maya approaches Vibhooti and Chiraunji for help as she and her laborers have been experiencing the presence of a ghost in the estate. Vibhooti and Chiraunji, who pose as ghostbusters, are the sons of the famous Ullat Baba who was known for trapping evil spirits. Vibhooti is skeptical about the existence of ghosts but is intrigued when he learns that the ghost is similar to one his father had trapped years ago. When the laborers start reporting sightings of the ghost, Vibhooti takes up the challenge to confront it. One night, Vibhooti and Chiraunji venture into the forest and come across the tree where the kichkandi was trapped in the pot and stored. Chiraunji is taken aback when he sees that the pot containing the kichkandi is still unbroken, implying that a different spirit is causing trouble at the estate. Things get even more complicated when Vibhooti reveals that their father was also a fraud and that there is no evil spirit in the pot. To prove his point, Vibhooti smashes the pot. What ensues from here on is the crux of the film.
